If you have not heard of Neodymium (NdFeB) magnets before, not to worry. They are in the family of Rare Earth magnets with Neodymium being the absolute strongest type of magnet available. They are even sometimes called permanent magnets.
They are incredibly strong and can be used for many things. Magnetic therapy, automotive, scientific, etc etc. I would not recommend this size for children as they can cause a serious pinching of the skin.
As mentioned in the listing for the 1/8" thick version of this block, they can be used to help trap those pesky little bits of metal in your motor oil. Just place one or two of these on the outside of the oil filter.

Neodymium magnets have an incredibly powerful magnetic field. Extreme care should be taken when dealing with some of the larger sizes. Even a pair of 1/2"x1/8" discs can cause a reasonably uncomfortable pinch. Separating magnets may be difficult and will most likely require that you slide them apart as you probably will not be able to pull them apart.
Neodymium magnets tend to be brittle and can shatter into small pieces if allowed to slam together. They are also not suitable for machining due to their brittle nature. Unless otherwise noted, Neodymium magnets will start to lose their magnetism at temperatures above 80c (176F).
