Norman Binninger used this Jig to start all duck carvings It's a block of pine 5 1/4 inches long by 3 inches high with pattern cut from the top and side making a 2 dimensional body, A hindge seperates the two so the body comes out.
This would be a fine tool for a beginning carver.
