This is a Delta 14" Wood/Metal band saw with the nifty cast iron base. It has the original 3ph motor in it. They put a newer GE mag starter on it at the college industrial arts lab I bought it from. Includes the coveted Delta lamp also that I've never hooked up (no plug). I've been using this saw in the shop the last couple years for strictly metal cutting. It has worked like a champ. It was a machine I was always intending to keep and fix up but since I got the slightly larger Walker-Turner 16" this saw has become redundant. It will come with two nearly new Lenox Bi-Metal blades (one fine, one coarse) that cut like buttah.
-The large pulley for high speed cutting won't be original. It was missing when I got the machine and I've got another here that I will fit to the saw but it isn't factory original.
-Consider tires. I've got vinyl tape wrapped around the bottom wheel for a tire. And the top rubber tire is there but it is nasty looking.I've never used it at high speed though and won't make any claims to their viability. Running at metal cutting speeds it is fine.
-The rear die cast trunnion clamp is broken. I think the actual trunnion itself is fine. The part that clamps it from the inside is broken though.
-All the original knobs are on the base. Same for the original oval head screws.
-The knob for the cast iron belt guard door is missing.
The serial number on the oilboard tag is 24-6792. I'll leave it to you Delta geeks to divine the born on date from that.
The saw has cast iron wheels. The lower one looks different than the upper one. Don't know if that was original or not.
The knobs that clamp the table are cast iron. I originally thought the rear trunnion was broken but examining the knobs showed that the trunnion looks fine but the clamp part inside the rear trunnion is what is broken.
There are no decals left visible. The machine has been painted over a couple times. They didn't do the badge on the door but they did go over any decals and the oilboard serial number tag.
Both four step pulleys are present.
The motor is a 1/2 horsepower Delta badged motor with condom. Funny though it doesn't look like they bought the proper size when the machine was purchased. It is sitting on wood riser blocks on the cast iron motor plate. Must have come like that originally from the dealer though. Both the saw and the motor have their own USAC (Air Corps?) property tags.
There are no breaks, bends, etc in the castings. There is a portion of the rear upper guard that has been enlarged below the upper wheel adjustment. Don't know why.
All the original knobs and oval head screws are present and accounted for except the one holding the cast iron belt cover closed.
The original switch hole is empty and the metal flex carrying the wires from the motor are routed through it.
The original aluminum sheet metal blade guard that attaches to the upper guide assembly has been replaced by a plexiglass one.
