Hardinge Steady Rest for DV59 Lathe: Model D17. The steady rest is used to support and prevent deflection of a workpiece while machining. It is used for center-drilling with the use of a tailstock, and for machining operations to be performed on the end of the workpiece which prohibits the use of a tailstock center.
The steadyrest mounts directly to a dovetail machine bed plate. The top section is hinged to provide for ease in loading. The three jaws are adjustable and have an accurate fit in the milled guides of the body. The rest is capable of holding a workpiece with a diameter of up to 3 inches. Once positioned it is "fixed". The D17 model is intended for low-rpm usage.
