These 1 1/2" diameter X 3/16" thick disks are brand new, Licensed NdFeB, Grade N40 material. They come Nickel plated to help prevent chipping and corrosion. Actual field density measured at the surface of one of these magnets is around 2500 Gauss. Br Max (the maximum field density which can be generated by this material) is 12,100 Gauss (this is considered to be the "Gauss Rating"). An amazingly strong and very practical NdFeB disc magnet. Thousands of uses! Use caution; these are not for kids. .
NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) magnets
These magnets are serious tools and somewhat dangerous if mishandled! Due to their size and dimensions, these magnets are larger than necessary for most applications. These are popular for underwater salvage, and some lifting applications - however, it should be noted, that a heavy, unbalanced load when lifted with magnets can easily break loose! Never use magnets for lifting unless you don't care that the load might unexpectedly break loose! If you really want to lift some heavy weights with magnets like these, get two of them, and stick them to a thick (1/2" or thicker) steel plate, right beside each other, one with North facing out and the other with South. This way, when the assembly comes down on a ferrous item to be lifted, it will "complete" the magnetic circuit and lift a LOT of weight ! Magicians enjoy this particular magnet due to its large size and power. Large magnets are often popular with folks looking for certain minerals, including meteorites! Gold prospectors use large magnets sometimes to filter out the heavy magnetite. These can be very useful in clamping/holding applications. Knife makers, machinists, mechanics, welders...etc - will find them invaluable. It is important to note, the maximum operating temperature of NdFeB magnets is around 300 deg F, so if using them in a high temperature application, like welding - it is important to remove the magnet before they get too hot! Again, these are large, and dangerous! Allow two to fly together and they'll probably break. Put two together, and you may never separate them. (it's all I can physically do to separate two of these magnets!
