This is a single crystal of pure 99.99999999% silicon. This is a by-product of the computer chip manufacturing process. The pure refined silicon is put in a crucible made of pure quartz and heated in a furnace at 2500 degrees fahrenheit until it is molten. A seed crystal is lowered into the silicon and over about 40 hours a single crystal is grown about 8 to 10 inches in diameter and over 3 feet long weighing over 100 lbs. This crystal is then removed from the furnace and diamond saws are used to slice thin slices called wafers which are polished and photo etched on the sureface to make computer chips. This is not a production crystal. I beleve it is a test crystal grown just to test the equipment. This crystal is only 9 inches long and 1 inch wide and has a termination point on both ends. This crystal weighs 9 and 3/4 ounces
Included with this crystal will be a sheet describing the process. After being in the business for twenty five years I was only able to save a few.of these.
